A Husband’s Role In Labor

Did you know that when a laboring woman is being cared for by her partner her body releases a hormone called Oxytocin? Do you know what Oxytocin does for that laboring momma? It causes the uterus to contract (thus helping labor to progress), triggers milk production, AND makes her feel loved, relaxed and confident. AMAZING right?! All of this FOR FREE with nothing but positive side effects!

Sometimes husbands are afraid that hiring a doula might replace their role in the childbirth experience. Quite the opposite! As a doula my desire is never to replace someone’s partner during the labor process. Instead I have the opportunity to equip and enable them to be involved in ways that are especially suited for men and highly beneficial to the momma!

Watching a couple labor TOGETHER is profoundly beautiful. A partnership can be strengthened for a lifetime through the bonding experience of labor and delivery.

Because of the profound impact a supportive partner can have on your birth experience, I spend as much time preparing and coaching partners as I do the mommas! I believe partners want to be involved and just need the education and tools to do so!
